This winter, my friend and I want to travel all over Spain! And we will start with the capital – Madrid. We plan to stay for just 2-3 nights. I think this will be enough for sightseeing in the city. It's also important for us to find a hotel with a beautiful view from the window, as Madrid is famous for its architectural diversity: wide avenues, monumental buildings, squares, parks, and museums. We would like to find a place where we can see the attractions and the city itself. My friend entrusted me with the choice, as I have good taste and always research every option before deciding on one. Our budget is limited, but we have the opportunity to stay in nice places. Besides, the definition of "cheap" varies for everyone. For us, the optimal price is up to 250 euros per night.

I have looked at hotels in different districts of the city to maximize the variety of views. Among the districts, I liked the city center the most, as well as Salamanca and Retiro. Therefore, I focused on hotels in those areas. The image galleries and prices get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on May 09, 2025.

The first hotel is located in the Salamanca district. I liked that there are many attractions here: the oldest university in Spain, the old cathedral from the first half of the 12th century, the new cathedral from the early 16th century, the Casa de las Conchas or "House of Shells," and the La Cleresía church in the Baroque style. We will definitely see them! The hotel itself is very beautiful and stylish; I really liked it visually.

View from the hotel

The view from the hotel rooms opens onto a beautiful street and a quiet courtyard with trees. For me - perfect! The street is not busy, so you can peacefully fall asleep and wake up to a lovely view of greenery. Guests praise the neighborhood and location, I think I made a good choice with my first impression.

Location

The hotel is located in the golden triangle, which means in the area that includes three museums: the Prado, the Thyssen-Bornemisza, and the Queen Sofia Arts Center. Nearby is the beautiful Retiro Park. I saw that you can go boating there, which is just great, and take a stroll along the well-manicured pathways. You must definitely see the Cybele Fountain, a magnificent monument; I always admire sculptures and their creators. Also, Tótem Madrid is just a minute's walk from Goya and Serrano Streets, which are full of stylish boutiques and trendy restaurants. After all, shopping in Madrid is a must-do. And as true fans of "Real Madrid," we will definitely visit the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, which is the home ground of the team and is not far away. To move around the city without problems, there is a Goya metro station just 2 minutes' walk from the hotel.

Advantages

The hotel itself is located in a historic building, which already adds charm and uniqueness to it. However, the rooms are modern and stylish. I liked their design and minimalistic style. Guests in reviews say that the rooms are very comfortable: the beds are soft, there’s a great bathroom with quality amenities. They also mention that cleaning is daily, and because of that, it’s always clean, and the water is replenished every day, which is not available in all hotels. Additionally, breakfasts and the care of the staff are praised, which is also important to me. The price suits us as well – it will be 550 euros per night, and since we're two, that’s 250 each – just right!

Disadvantages

I read in the reviews that the hotel can feel a bit cramped if it is crowded with visitors. I still wouldn't want to constantly encounter other guests; I hope that won't be the case during our stay (if we choose this option). Also, only one elevator was working, and going up to the 4th floor with a suitcase is not a great idea.

The second hotel is already located in the city center, in the historic district of Barrio de las Letras. The building itself is from the 18th century and is part of the historical complex of Madrid, bearing the title "Artistic Heritage of the City." Inside, it is very beautiful, with lion sculptures in the lobby (it is quite interesting that it was originally intended for horse-drawn carriages), adorned with stucco and finishes, as well as a charming inner courtyard. I definitely like the place.

View from the hotel

The hotel offers a beautiful view of Atocha Street with its historical buildings, but it can be quite noisy, so you will need to close the windows at night. You can also choose a room with a view of the courtyard, adorned with plants and modern furniture. It is already more secluded. It has an interesting history: in the times when the building was newly constructed, the "chulapos" from the surroundings would gather there to smoke and talk to women. I love such historical details in hotels; they always add a special atmosphere to the stay. And conveniently, the room names indicate what kind of view each room has—it's all perfectly clear right away.

Location

Catalonia Puerta del Sol is located near Plaza Mayor and the Puerta del Sol Gate, after which the hotel is named, approximately 50 meters away. Nearby are restaurants, such as Cardena or Taberna la Descubierta. We are really looking forward to trying tapas and paella, so it's great that everything is nearby. Then we can visit the famous museum triangle, which is just a 15-minute walk from the hotel, or the botanical garden. We haven't decided how we will get to the next city in Spain, possibly by train. So it's convenient that Atocha railway station is within 1 km of Catalonia Puerta del Sol.

Advantages

Rooms in a modern style may not be in a very cozy shade for me, gray, but they look stylish and spacious. This is great because I wouldn't want to live in a cramped room. They say that the pillows and mattresses here are very comfortable, and there are warm blankets in the closet. We are also satisfied with the price – only 230 euros per night, which is 115 euros each for two – this suits us very well. I also liked the abundant breakfast in the hotel restaurant. You can choose between hot dishes with eggs, sausages, and bacon, meat snacks, cheeses, sweets, yogurts, and much more. And if you want something special, you can order toast with smoked salmon and a glass of cava – this kind of Spanish morning is to my taste!

Disadvantages

It's a pity that the rooms with a view of the beautiful Atocha street will be quite noisy. But it's so picturesque! But that's because of the city center. I wonder if this feature will be present in all hotels. In the reviews, they mentioned a room for three people, and there were not enough bathrobes and slippers, and there was only one chair. But I think that for two people, everything will be sufficient. And from the photos of the bathroom, I saw that there is only enough space for the hotel's toiletries, and there’s no room for my own. I always take shampoo for sure, so I'll have to think about where to put everything. They also mentioned that there was hardly any hot water in the bidet, which is not very comfortable; I hope they have already fixed everything.

The third hotel is also located in the city center, but on a different street - Calle Barquillo. It is said that this area is where the financial and cultural districts of Madrid converge. There are many shops, museums, restaurants, and nightclubs here. Just what you need to have fun and enrich yourself culturally.

View from the hotel

Depending on the rooms, you can choose the view from the window. For example, from the upgraded rooms, you can see the famous Barkillo street and the Santa Isabel theater, while from the premium room — the bustling Augusto Figueroa street. And the higher the class of the room, the more beautiful the view — for example, the penthouse has a stunning terrace with a view of the area. Very exciting!

Location

The hotel is located just a short distance from the famous Plaza de Chueca, about a 4-minute walk. It is named after the Madrid composer Federico Chueca and has borne his name since 1943. The square usually hosts a variety of events and is also interesting for its restaurants with terraces, shops, and activities. Additionally, the Paseo de Recoletos boulevard is very close by. My friend really wants to go there! There are beautiful gardens with sculptures, 8 ponds with small waterfalls that flow from pond to pond, and book fairs, street performances, and dances take place there. As a book lover, she will definitely buy something here.

Advantages

The hotel decor is very cool. It's simultaneously inspired by the style of the 19th century with touches of modernity. It turns out that this is the work of the prestigious interior designer Lazaro Rosa-Violán, who helped the hotel earn the title of "Best Boutique Hotel in the World" in the design category. I don't have much knowledge in this area, but I can appreciate good decor, and it truly is luxurious and represents different cultures. This was noted not only by me but also by other guests who positively commented on the comfortable and clean rooms and the good food in the restaurant. I didn't find any reviews mentioning noise from the street, which is somewhat of a relief since I won't have to sacrifice a quiet sleep.

Disadvantages

I found an interesting review stating that the hotel was crowded with outsiders who do not reside there, and because of this, it is impossible to find a spot in the lobby. Perhaps, people who are not guests also dine here, and it attracts attention due to its bright design. But in any case, I wouldn't want a crowd; there is already enough of it on the streets. Someone also mentioned that the beds are uncomfortably made. I even became curious about what that looks like. Additionally, staying here is slightly over our budget, by 20 euros, but that's not a huge difference.

The fourth hotel is located on Calle de Alcalá in a building from the early 20th century, just a few meters from Gran Vía street or Cibeles with the goddess Cybele, opposite Plaza de Canalejas and the new luxury shopping center La Galería Canalejas. All attractions are nearby, as well as shops for shopping. Your friend will definitely appreciate this place!

View from the hotel

The Regina rooms are located between two historic buildings. The main doors open onto Alcalá Street, and you immediately see the Círculo de Bellas Artes, surrounded by the lively Plaza de Canalajas and the lights of Madrid – true romance. From the windows, you can see two bronze quadrigas installed on the Banco de Bilbao building – an impressive sight. How nice it would be to drink coffee in the mornings with such a view. I liked that the back rooms are separated from the city by the quiet Calle de la Aduana. You can choose what is more important: the view or silence. Because from the hotel terrace, you can also observe the beautiful rooftops of the city. But that's for those who live in the penthouse. It's a pity that such a view is not for everyone.

Advantages

I want to specifically mention the mirrors in the bathroom. As a lover of beautiful makeup, I appreciate such care for the guests. I also liked the dimming system in the rooms (some just have dark curtains), it provides comfortable conditions for sleep at any time. After a day in the sun, it’s always nice to return to the hotel to rest a bit. The breakfast here is quite good, and other guests mention it as well. And, of course, the location and the price of 240 euros per night for two are among the top advantages.

Disadvantages

Someone wrote that the elevators in the hotel were slow, but for me, it's a minor issue. Moreover, they say there are chairs in the hallways so that you can comfortably wait when necessary. However, there is poor sound insulation, so I will have to close the windows. I hope that sounds from neighboring rooms will not be audible.

Apparently, all my hotels are built in historical buildings, and I absolutely love it. The last one - is no exception, this building from the 19th century, located in the Retiro district. It offers a nearly panoramic view of the city, especially beautiful at night surrounded by lights.

View from the hotel

The windows of the hotel offer a view of Infanta Isabella Avenue, named after the ruler of the Spanish provinces of the Netherlands, and Alfonso XII Street, where a monument to the famous king stands. I really enjoyed the view from the terrace of the rooms; you can witness the sunrise overlooking the beautiful streets. And to continue enjoying, you can go up to the breakfast hall, which is located on the top floor of the hotel, and recharge your energy. Food with a stunning view of the city - our little dream.

Advantages

I find it convenient that the hotel is located 150 meters from the Madrid-Atocha train station. It is easy to get there and continue your journey through Spain. If you walk for 10 minutes, you'll find the O Pazo de Lugo restaurant, which serves traditional Galician dishes, or Bodegas Rosell with a wide selection of wines and homemade Spanish cuisine. A huge plus for me is the soundproofed rooms; there will be no extra noise, and the price per night for two is about 190 euros.

Disadvantages

Overall, I really liked the hotel, the cool loft atmosphere and youthful vibe. However, some people didn't quite like it in the lobby. They say it was crowded and noisy there. But I think that's just the style of such a hotel. For example, unlike the Only You Boutique Hotel Madrid, which is more secluded and doesn't match with crowds. By the way, they are part of the same chain, but they are completely different. Some guests, of course, weren't so lucky, and the view from their window was on a construction site. Apparently, they arrived at a not-so-convenient time. But you can't really know about that in advance.
