This year my grandmother will have a jubilee - 70 years, and I want to give her a gift - a joint trip to Madrid. In my childhood, we often traveled together around our country, but she has never been abroad. Madrid has always been her dream, but she has never been there. I want this trip to be memorable, so I am choosing five-star hotels with beautiful views of the sights: the royal palace, cathedrals, squares, the old town. I am sure my grandmother will appreciate my gift and we will spend a joyful vacation together! The image galleries and prices get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. The second hotel — is a true 19th-century palace, inspired by the works of Velázquez, secluded and hidden behind large wrought-iron gates. I really liked it both externally and internally. Staying in such a place — is something special. I think this is the right hotel to surprise my grandmother. Moreover, the Sabatini Gardens, which she has long dreamed of visiting, are located near the hotel.
Depending on the room, the view is either of a quiet beautiful street or of El Madrid de los Austrias — the old center of Madrid. It looks especially beautiful from the terrace of the rooms, where the orange tiled roofs can be seen glowing red at sunset. Additionally, from the hotel's rooftop, one can observe the beautiful spires of the Almudena Cathedral, as well as practically the entire city. What a beauty it is!
The hotel is located on the main street of the Madrid de los Austrias district, between Plaza de Oriente and Gran Via. On Madrid de los Austrias is the Las Carboneras church, a women's monastery where the nuns bake and sell various sweets near the entrance: buns, croissants, rolls. I really want to go there and try their pastries. And at Plaza de Oriente, I really want to visit the Sanatorio De Muñecos store, which is a 4-minute walk from the hotel. It is the oldest toy shop in the city, which has an exhibition of toys from all eras. I collect them and always try to bring back at least one from my travels. My grandmother instilled this habit in me. When I was very little, she always brought me toys from her trips, and this tradition is still with us.
Here are beautiful historical gardens where you can walk in the evening and chat about what you've seen during the day. You can also imagine what intrigues took place in these secluded corners of the garden and sweetly giggle over the stories invented with my beloved senora. The Michelin-starred cuisine here is wonderful, and many residents are delighted with both the overall impression and their stay at the hotel. The rooms are spacious, bright, and adorned with paintings – all of this creates the atmosphere of a palace, and now you live in it, feeling like a truly important person.
Having read negative reviews about the hotel, I realized that for me they are not negative at all. It's just the absence of some amenities, for example, breakfast is not served in the room, there are no tablecloths on the tables, and the restaurant menu is somewhat limited. But for me, this is more of a plus than a minus, as I understand that the dishes here are really quality, and tablecloths on the tables are each person's preference. Of course, I would like breakfast in the room, but if it's not available, it's not critical.

The Last Hotel — very classic, five-star, was opened in the mid-XX century. I really liked its coziness and unusual shape. It has a convenient location in a good area, all attractions nearby, but I wrote about this a little further down.
From the rooms, you can see the quiet and beautiful Velasquez Street. It is named after Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez, a Baroque artist, one of the greatest representatives of Spanish painting. There are many clothing stores, jewelry salons, antique shops, and brand shoe boutiques in this neighborhood. My grandmother and I would love to visit the Charlotte Tilbury store (I think it's quite well-known and doesn't need an introduction). And also Antigua Casa Crespo, a shop for woven products where you can buy alpargatas - traditional Spanish footwear. And we won't miss the ceramics and hand-painted products shop Antigua Casa Talavera. My grandmother loves to collect dishes.
Of course, the best view is from the penthouse terrace, but it is priced very high, and it would be more suitable for families; for two people, it would be too large.
The Wellington Hotel & Spa Madrid is located on Velazquez street, already in another district of the city - Salamanca. It is situated right in the so-called "golden triangle of art," near the Alcala Gate (opened in 1778), one of the five royal gates through which one could enter the city. Also nearby is Retiro Park (established in the mid-17th century), a huge green space, the Royal Botanical Garden, and the Prado Museum. For history and architecture lovers like us, it couldn't be better!
Besides the cozy rooms with beautiful and functional bathrooms, I remember the facial treatments at the hotel spa. I would like to book the RGNerin Facial Ritual for my grandmother - the “botox effect” procedure without injections, which uses a high-tech facial mask with aloe vera extract and flax seeds. My lady takes care of herself, and I think receiving such a gift will be particularly pleasant for her. In addition, the wellness center offers massage and sauna services, but we avoid the sauna.
I was very curious about what drawbacks this hotel might have, since after researching the amenities, I found nothing, except for the paid access to the spa, which I would have liked to be included in the price. Many guests wrote that the hotel has old plumbing (which is not visible in the photos), and in the shower, the water can suddenly switch from boiling hot to cold. They also say that instead of one large mattress on the bed, there are two single mattresses pushed together. I think it’s not very comfortable to sleep like that for one person, but it’s fine for two, though again, if they are not a couple. And overall, they mention outdated furniture in the hotel.
Of all the hotels, I liked the second one the most. It has an average price between the first and third hotels, and my impressions of it are simply wonderful. I think my grandmother will be absolutely delighted with it. It has a cool location, a magnificent view from the windows and terrace, and the hotel itself is a former palace. This is the perfect place for my lady.

This is not a hotel, but a real gallery. I read that it was designed as a symbol of design, art, decor, and architecture in Madrid. It seems to me that the best view is inside this hotel! Inside, there is an impressive sculpture resembling a waterfall. It falls from a transparent ceiling directly into the pool - an incredible sight! Also, in every corner of the hotel, even in the rooms and corridors, you can admire a private collection of artworks, which consists of nearly 300 original works in different styles. I think my grandmother would also appreciate this hotel, as she is very interested in art.
You can see the quiet Calle del Río street, the famous Plaza de España, the Austrian Quarter, the center of Madrid, and even the Royal Palace from the rooms. It all depends on the room class. But the view will be magnificent in any case, because all rooms are equipped with floor-to-ceiling windows - it's practically a panoramic view (I checked the photos of all the rooms to make sure). And this means a lot of light, great visibility, and how wonderful it will be to enjoy coffee in the mornings while admiring these historic buildings!
The VP Plaza España Design Hotel is located in Plaza de España (it is said to be the largest square in the country), which has many attractions. Moreover, it is not far from Gran Via, by the way, where the "Grassi" building with an observation deck on top is located. And just a few meters from the hotel is the Royal Palace. My grandmother and I really want to see it; it's great that it's so close.
It's really cool that in all types of rooms, from standard to presidential, L'Occitane cosmetics are provided in the bathrooms. I think you can already judge the care and service of the hotel by this. And there is a Nespresso coffee machine in every room. My grandma and I are avid coffee lovers and enjoy treating ourselves to a cup of coffee in the morning.
I always look at hotels, and they are wonderful here. From the location to all the attractions to the service. I also learned from them that there is an interesting bar on the roof with a beautiful view of the city. We will definitely hang out there with my grandma.
Of course, there will be some negative reviews. I read that not everyone liked the small size of the spa and that it is available for an additional fee. Well, I agree that in a five-star hotel you expect most services to be included in the price, but this is not critical for us, as my grandmother cannot go to the sauna, and I am not a fan of hot rooms.
From the photos, I wouldn't say that the rooms are small, but guests have written that they are. Maybe we have different standards or it's an advantageous angle for the shoot? In any case, I decided to note this.
