Imagine waking up to the sound of waves, sipping coffee with a view of ancient streets, and trying the freshest seafood. And I don't even need to imagine it! All of this was in Portugal – a country you can't help but fall in love with, especially if you're vacationing in the city of Porto.

After my trip there, I decided to create a list of the best hotels so that you can also fully enjoy your holiday. Be sure to visit this country, as it has everything: golden beaches of the Algarve for a lazy vacation, wine tours in the Douro Valley for relaxation, and Lisbon with its narrow streets where you want to wander for hours. And Porto? This city seems to have stepped out of a postcard: colorful houses, stunning views of the Douro River, and of course, the famous port wine. The image galleries and prices get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on May 09, 2025.

The Yeatman — is truly a paradise in Portugal, the very heart of the city of Vila Nova de Gaia. There, you can feel like a real queen. I fell in love with it the moment I stepped onto the terrace and saw that stunning view of the Douro River. It was because of this view that I added it to my selection. Indeed, it’s like a postcard, only alive: the red rooftops of the houses, the sun reflecting on the water, and the sunsets so romantic that they take your breath away. This hotel — is like a warm blanket on a cold evening: cozy, luxurious, and filled with delightful little details.

The best view

The main feature of the hotel — is the view of the city and the river, which is available from almost any corner. You can sit on the terrace with a glass of Portuguese wine, and before you, the beauty of Porto is illuminated. It’s especially wonderful in the evening when the city seems to be wrapped in a golden glow.

The building is located on a hill, so the view is panoramic. Here, you feel above all cares and hustle. And the highlight — is the pool with such a magnificent view. You swim and think: "Oh, how wonderful it is to live!".

Hotel rooms

The rooms at The Yeatman are not just rooms, but a wine paradise! Each room is connected to a Portuguese winery, and the decor reflects this theme: barrels, vintage posters, and even grape-patterned pillows – how wonderful! All super spacious, with balconies where you can sit and enjoy the views. The beds are so soft that you just don't want to get up at all. And the bathroom? Huge, with marble and fragrant gels, just like in a spa. The design is tastefully exquisite, there is definitely a balcony or terrace with a view of Porto. In short, relaxing here is a pure pleasure.

Dining and wine

The hotel restaurant is luxurious, with two Michelin stars. Under the guidance of Chef Ricardo Costa, guests are offered an exquisite menu based on traditional Portuguese ingredients, but with a modern approach. I really loved the tender cod with some magical sauce! And the desserts—they literally melt in your mouth! The presentation of the dishes provided me with not only gastronomic but also visual pleasure. Breakfasts are also fabulous: fresh fruits, croissants, cheeses, and of course, champagne. Why not? The wine here is poured with soul. You can really feel that you are in the wine capital of the world. I highly recommend trying it, as their wine list is simply magnificent.

Services

At The Yeatman, I can relax 100%. Spa? Yes! And not just a spa, but one with wine treatments. A bath with grape extract - it's a dream, right? The rooftop pool - a separate form of art. There is a gym, but who even thinks about sports when there is so much delicious food and wine around? They also organize winery tours here, so I was able to fully immerse myself in the culture of the region.

Torel Avantgarde — completely new. It was built in 2017, but it has already won the love of many, including mine.

This luxurious boutique hotel in the center of Porto stands out with a concept inspired by art, culture, and creativity. I chose it because it perfectly combines the atmosphere of the city and stylish contemporary art. I also wanted to find a place that is truly unique, not just another “pretty hotel.” And I definitely succeeded in that!

Best view

The hotel is perched on a hill, and the terrace of the pool offers a stunning view of the Douro River and all of Porto. This view is like a movie, only it's live: bridges, ancient houses, red-tiled roofs, and greenery. And the sunsets? That's a whole other level of romance. You sit with a glass of port wine, watching the sun dissolve into the river, and think: "This is life!". Even from the restaurant and most of the rooms, the view does not disappoint. As for the balconies — they are a separate pleasure.

Hotel Rooms

The hotel has 49 rooms and suites. I was very impressed that each of them is dedicated to a famous artist, writer, or designer, for example, Picasso, Dali, Coco Chanel, and others. They are truly little masterpieces!

The interior is stylish, modern, but without unnecessary pomp, everything feels very homely. And there are huge windows and cozy balconies, where I enjoyed sitting with a cup of coffee and admiring the view. The beds? Just a dream, so soft that it’s hard to convince yourself to get up in the morning. Also, there are so many cool little things: designer lamps, paintings on the walls, cozy blankets; you feel that they thought of you and took care of you.

Food and wine

The restaurant in the hotel — is a gastronomic adventure. You try dishes and feel like you've attended a master class by the chef. Everything is made from local products, the presentation is like in the best restaurants in the world. Breakfasts? Here they are special: the freshest fruits, homemade pastries, cheeses, yogurts  and, of course, signature dishes from the chef. And yes, be sure to try their desserts — they are small works of art that you want to photograph before eating.

Services

The spa at Torel Avantgarde — is simply delightful. Massages, aromatherapy and even treatments inspired by art. Seriously, it’s like meditation, only better. And the pool with a view of Porto is the perfect place to relax and take a couple of chic photos for social media. The staff is just golden. They are so kind and responsive that you just want to hug them all. I also liked that they organize tours and can point out the best places in the city so you don’t miss anything interesting.

Here's a different story, but no less cool! Hotel Dom Henrique-Downtown is a classic with a twist in the center of Porto.

The hotel was opened in 1973. It immediately captured my heart because it combines comfort, style, and the atmosphere of the city. Its historic vibe with a touch of modernity makes the stay special. I added it to my list for its easy combination of active rest (you can stroll around the city until midnight!) and cozy relaxation. And the rooftop bar is just a must-have for traveling.

Best view

Oh, you will appreciate this! They have a rooftop panoramic bar, and it's just "wow." You sit with a cocktail, looking at the rooftops of the city, the Douro in the distance, the towers and bridges. It's especially beautiful in the evening when Porto turns into a fairy tale with lights. From up high, you also feel the cozy chaos of the city, where ancient architecture intertwines with modern life. The views make you stop and seize the moment.

Hotel Rooms

The rooms here — are a classic style with a modern touch. Spacious, bright, with large windows, and in some places even with a view of the old town or the river. Everything is done in such a way that I felt comfortable like at home, while having a clear sense that I am on vacation. Comfortable beds, stylish furniture, and nice little touches like fresh coffee right in the room. I love it when comfort combines with simplicity, and here it is 100%.

Food and Wine

I really liked the hotel's restaurant — 17th Restaurant & Bar. The number in the name indicates the floor on which it is located, and that’s where the most interesting part begins. When I came here, I was left speechless by the beauty, as it offers an incredible panoramic view of the city and the Douro River. How beautiful it is! I was delighted by the selection of cocktails and wines. I recommend it! I guarantee you will never forget this moment of your life.

Services

The hotel has great service, everything you need for a good rest: a 24-hour reception, fast Wi-Fi (for those who want to not only relax but also post their photos with a view). The staff is super friendly, always ready to help with any questions. It’s also convenient that the building is in the center – you can easily walk to the main attractions: the São Bento station, Santa Catarina street, and, of course, to the banks of the Douro.

I love hotels with history, and here it literally hangs in the air. Pestana Vintage Porto is located in a building from the 16th century, and you can feel it: stone walls, vintage details, ancient beams - everything speaks of a place that has been inhabited for centuries. But inside, everything is so modern that you feel at home.

And I was also captivated by this view! How can you not fall in love with a place where you step out in the morning with a cup of coffee and see the Douro River, and in the evening, you sit down with a glass of wine and admire the reflection of lights in the water?

Best view

The magic of Pestana Vintage Porto lies in its location. You step out of the hotel, and in front of you is the Douro River, and on the other bank are the famous wine cellars. Right there is the Ribeira waterfront with its colorful houses, cafes, and lively atmosphere. The best view, of course, is from the rooms with river-facing windows. Imagine sitting on the windowsill with a glass of port wine, watching the sunset paint the water in different shades, while boats float by. It’s like a scene from a movie, only you are the star!

Hotel Rooms

There are a total of 109 rooms in the hotel, each offering a view of the beautiful square in the city center and the Luis I Bridge. Everything is so stylish, cozy, yet with modern amenities. The bed is like a cloud, into which you want to fall after a walk. And the bathroom? Marble, soft towels, and sometimes even a view of the city from the window. There are both standard and luxury rooms if you want to pamper yourself like royalty. And you know what's the coolest part? Each room has its own unique style, as if you're visiting a designer's home.

Dining and Wine

Breakfasts — it’s simply a feast for the stomach! I really enjoyed the fresh croissants, local cheese, fruits, and, of course, coffee. They make it just right — rich and aromatic. And if you crave something special, the RIB Beef & Wine restaurant, which is located right in the hotel, serves simply divine steaks. In the evening, after walks, be sure to drop by the bar for a glass of port wine or a cocktail. The views from the window are so beautiful that the drink seems even tastier.

Services

Here you will be surrounded by care, but unobtrusively, which is especially valuable. Want to relax? I'll order a massage right in the room. Need to know something about the city? The staff will happily suggest where to go and what to try. You can also take a boat tour on the river or order a transfer – everything for comfort. And if you happen to be here for business – the internet is fast, you can even make a video call with a view of the Douro (to the envy of your colleagues).

This hotel is not just a place to relax, but an opportunity to live in a palace! I was captivated by its aristocratic luxury, yet it does not overwhelm with its opulence. Here you feel both special and relaxed at the same time. Plus, it's the perfect place for those who want to enjoy peace, be inspired by the beauty of nature, while not giving up on comfort. I would return here any day!

Best view

The hotel is located right on the banks of the Douro, and the views here are simply fantastic! Step out onto the terrace in the morning or look out from your room — and before you is the river, green hills, and the sun reflecting on the water. There is also a huge garden where you can walk for hours. The best view, of course, is from the pool: you lie down, relax, and the Douro stretches out before you.

Hotel rooms

The hotel has 87 rooms, all divided into three categories. The first – classic rooms. Everything here is simple, yet tastefully minimalist, with historical accents that add interest. Next are the superior rooms – essentially the same as the classic ones, just a bit more comfortable, with more amenities. And if you want something truly luxurious, be sure to check out the suite. It’s simply out of this world! Here you have stunning views of the park, wonderful rooms where you can not only relax but also feel like you're on a pedestal. High ceilings, huge windows, beds so comfortable that you won't want to get up. The interiors feature many classic elements: velvet armchairs, elegant paintings, furniture that seems to be from another era. Here you can really feel like a queen!

Dining and wine

The Palatium restaurant is located in the former hall of the palace, it is very beautiful there... The menu is traditional, Portuguese, with no frills. The dishes here are very tasty and always made with fresh ingredients. And if you want to visit the bar, you will find yourself in a place that offers the same stunning view of the park as in the luxury rooms.

Services

The outdoor pool with a view of the river is my favorite. There is also a spa where you can fully relax (the massages are simply magical!). The staff are true professionals: they always smile and are ready to help. And if you want to explore the surroundings, they will help organize a boat trip on the Douro or offer a transfer to the city center.

Vila Foz — is a place where you feel one with nature, but surrounded by the utmost comfort. I was struck by its sincerity: everything is genuine — from the emotions of the staff to the freshness of the food. And the atmosphere: it seems like a luxurious hotel, yet it does not overwhelm with its pompousness. This is a place where you relax your soul, body, and even thoughts. To be honest, I feel that this is one of those rare places you want to return to as soon as you leave.

Best view

This hotel is located right by the ocean! You sit on the terrace or peek out the window, and before you is a smooth expanse of water. The sea breeze, the sound of the waves, the setting sun that paints everything in warm tones... It's a true tranquility. And the area around is such a peaceful corner of Porto, where there are few tourists, yet it's easy to reach the city center. The sunsets are especially beautiful here: they have a special magic.

Hotel Rooms

In total, there are 68 rooms and suites, and each one is designed for you to feel at home, while being as relaxed and private as possible.

Classic rooms are quite simple, but very cozy, with views of the garden or the ocean. The historical villa, however, has a completely different atmosphere: high ceilings, antique details just like in some aristocratic house. But to be honest, I was most impressed by the suites - so spacious, with lounging areas and balconies that offer breathtaking views!

Food and wine

Oh, the kitchen here deserves separate praise. The breakfasts are simply divine: fresh bread, homemade jams, soft cheese, exotic fruits, and juices. I ate and couldn't stop! And the hotel restaurant – it's fantastic. They serve seafood dishes caught right nearby. For example, the scallops with citrus sauce – it's something incredible.

Services

The five-star hotel is located right by the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean in the Foz do Douro area, one of the most prestigious and picturesque areas of Porto. You wake up, open the windows, and there is the endless ocean. The waves roar, the air is fresh - it’s simply a dream! They also have a luxurious spa where you can truly relax. If you love the sea - this is your option. Moreover, the hotel is designed in the style of the 19th century and looks very elegant. Take a closer look at it if you enjoy such aesthetics.

I was captivated by the atmosphere of the hotel. It has so much history and style that it feels like you're becoming part of something bigger. At the same time, it is very cozy, homey, and not pretentious. And, of course, the convenience: you can walk to all the main places in Porto, and in the evening return and relax in a luxurious setting.

Best view

The hotel is located in the very center of Porto, which is already a big plus. It is just a stone's throw away from all the main attractions: Clerigos, Livraria Lello, and Liberdade Square. The views from the rooms vary: some windows offer a stunning panorama of the city streets, rooftops, and bell towers, while others overlook a cozy inner courtyard. There is no special view of the ocean or the river, but this is compensated by the fact that you live right in the heart of historic Porto.

Hotel rooms

There are 85 rooms in the hotel, which are also divided into the same three categories as before: standard, superior, and luxury. The furniture is made of dark wood, velvet curtains, antique chandeliers, patterned carpets... But everything is so clean, fresh, and comfortable that it feels like you are living in a modern palace. And the beds - they are just love! Huge, soft, with pillows that you don't want to get out of. I also liked that the rooms have such nice little things: bathrobes, slippers, and even a coffee machine.

Dining and Wine

The breakfasts here are like something out of a movie about morning in Porto. Everything is beautifully served in a historic hall with gilded details and huge windows. And the choice of food? There are croissants that crunch perfectly, freshest fruits, yogurts, cheeses, ham... Coffee! So strong and aromatic, just the way I like it. If you stay for lunch or dinner, the restaurant serves dishes of Portuguese cuisine made from local products. The fish and seafood are simply finger-licking good!

Services

Everything in the hotel is designed to make you feel fabulous. There is a cozy inner courtyard where you can relax with a glass of wine. The staff is incredibly polite but unobtrusive. I also liked that there is a small spa: you can order a massage or simply relax in the sauna. If you need to know something about the city, they will organize excursions, recommend great places for walks, or suggest where to try the best port wine.
