The trip to Indonesia has been on my list of goals for quite a while. And finally, that day has come – my husband and I are flying to this tropical island. We have chosen the city of Ubud for our stay, as it is the cultural capital and spiritual center. I would like to arrive during the Galungan festival. This is the most important day for the Balinese – they celebrate the victory of good over evil. Services are held in the temples, the streets and themselves are decorated, they sing and dance, and prepare special dishes. The city becomes even more colorful and unusual during this time.
The festival lasts for 10 days, and in 2025 it will take place in April and November. We have not yet chosen the exact date of our trip, but we would like to decide on the hotel right away. We will be spending most of our time outside exploring the island, so breakfast is a priority for us. This selection includes options where it is already included in the price. The image galleries and prices get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on April 18, 2025.

Ubud Valley Resort — this is a paradise place in a wild corner of nature. I chose this hotel because you can stay in traditional wooden houses — joglo. It is also located in a valley that offers a beautiful view of the Pakerisan River. This place is perfect for a peaceful retreat.
At the Pakerisan restaurant, you can choose from a variety of breakfasts: American, English, continental, Indonesian, and vegetarian. There is also an à la carte breakfast option available. I read the reviews, and hotel guests highly praise the food here: abundant, tasty, and filling. They especially highlight the delicious coffee.
You can feel like a true local while staying in a traditional joglo house. Each villa comes with a bathroom equipped with all the amenities and a private balcony where you can relax and enjoy the view of the surrounding greenery. You will also have a writing desk, a television with satellite channels, a mini-bar, complimentary mineral water, and air conditioning with a self-control function. For two, you can choose a villa with one bed and a garden view or a villa with a private pool and a view of the valley and stunning waterfall. There are also houses designed for a larger number of guests.
I think this hotel is perfect for a romantic getaway, a wedding, and a honeymoon. There is a special idyllic atmosphere here with lush vegetation, crimson sunsets, and an incredible sky that one so wants to share with a loved one. And the hotel will enhance these moments with its special service: breakfast in the pool of your cottage, dinner with charming floral decor of the villa, showering your pool with flowers, or assisting in organizing the wedding.
At Ubud Valley Boutique Resort, you will have a greater choice of activities in Ubud if you are looking for variety in your relaxation. Take a bike ride around the resort and enjoy the lush rice fields and the famous cave. Learn to cook Indonesian dishes under the guidance of a local chef. Try the famous English afternoon tea, Indonesian style. The hotel offers many interesting tours: to famous temples, caves, plantations, and fields. Please note that these are paid services.

This hotel was decided to be added, firstly, because it is located amidst the lush gardens of Alam-Indah. It has its own unique style of cottages with traditional Balinese architecture. If one did not know that they are for accommodation, one might think that these are small temples in the middle of the forest. And, secondly, because it has only 10 rooms. I would like to live in a place where there aren't too many people, considering that Bali is quite a popular destination among tourists.
The breakfast at the Alam Indah Ubud hotel includes freshly brewed coffee, fruits, pastries, and eggs. Guests are also offered a comprehensive menu that includes fresh juices, yogurts, muesli, various types of eggs, fresh bread, croissants, pancakes, fritters, and Asian dishes like fried rice. Breakfast is included in the booking price, but it still needs to be mentioned. Another dining option is an à la carte menu. I always pay attention to reviews about the breakfast. This way, you can get a clearer idea of what to expect upon arrival at the hotel. Most guests write that the food from the menu is very tasty, there are dishes for vegans, and room service for food and drinks is available.
After reviewing the hotel's website information and photos, I found that the windows offer a stunning view of the sacred land of the Monkey Forest temple. Each room is decorated in its own style, combining Balinese architecture and modern amenities. The bedrooms have air conditioning and ceiling fans, a writing desk, a resting couch, and on the terraces or balconies – a furnished relaxation area where you can greet the sunrise and bid farewell to the sunset. The bathrooms include a bathtub and a shower. Every morning you can start with a walk in the garden, and then swim in the pool overlooking the valley.
Even though you will be staying in a secluded place, it is easy to reach the center — just a 10-minute walk through the forest and you will be on Monkey Forest Road. Also, a free car transfer to and from the center of Ubud will be provided upon request.
In my opinion, it's very convenient when you can book excursions at the hotel. Of course, I also like the option of a moped trip on the roads of Ubud to explore the surroundings. And who says these two options can't be alternated? If you choose the first option, an unforgettable journey to interesting corners of the island will be organized for you. This includes a hike to Jaga-Sari, where you will visit the ancestral temple and walk through the rice fields, then you will head to the monkey forest and the Pura Dalem temple in the village of Padang Tegal. You will get acquainted with the decorative and applied arts of Indonesia. And this is just part of the exciting excursions.

I wanted to add a wellness resort to the selection, where you can hold your own retreat or participate in one to restore your physical and emotional health. I believe that Honai Resort will be the perfect choice. This hotel is a Balinese center for yoga and wellness located in the countryside of Ubud. It is a modern interpretation of the traditional Indonesian Honai, or round house. If you are traveling to Bali for wellness purposes, be sure to consider this option.
You will have the opportunity to choose a diverse breakfast from the menu, which, according to guests, is tasty, with average portions and a great selection. It can be ordered to your room if you dream of privacy in the morning, or by the pool if you want to experience something unusual. Some have noted that the breakfast is quite simple, without frills, and it may be served with a delay.
You will stay in charming round houses that have everything you need: a large bed, a writing desk, a terrace with a view of blooming gardens, a spacious bathroom with a bathtub adorned with flowers. I am sure that in such accommodation you will feel true tranquility and fully recharge.
At the hotel, you can book a retreat program created by Honey Resort, or host your own wellness event if you are a professional in this field. The team here will help organize everything. If you arrive at the hotel to participate in the retreat, the program includes: a tropical room with a balcony or terrace, which can be single, double, or twin occupancy, a Balinese welcoming ceremony, a luxurious open-air yoga shala with an instructor. There is also a spa center, cultural activities such as hiking, cycling tours, excursions, purification in sacred waters, Balinese batik lessons, and cooking master classes. Everything to help you feel better.

I chose this garden-surrounded hotel for its close proximity to many iconic places in Ubud. It is located 10 minutes drive from the cultural center Peliatan Royal Palace and other attractions: 2.4 km from the Campuhan Ridge Walk, the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is 3 km away, and the distance to Ngurah Rai International Airport is 28 km.
You should note that the hotel only serves vegetarian and vegan breakfasts. So, if you are not used to this, do not refuse to stay here. Trying something new is always interesting, and this type of diet is quite satisfying. I am sure you definitely won't go hungry.
What stuck with me is that this hotel has a small number of rooms, and all of them are non-smoking. Some of them are equipped with soundproof windows, as well as amenities like free wireless Internet access and a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. The rooms have a desk, as well as facilities for making tea and coffee. The bathrooms will have a tropical shower and a separate toilet, as well as amenities like toiletries and a hairdryer. I noticed that in most hotels in Bali, they love to decorate the bathrooms with flowers. I encountered this feature in previous places as well. From the photos, the rooms look very tidy and elegant. All the houses are made of beautifully rich-colored wood.
In the reviews, guests are particularly pleased with the view from the cottages: some windows overlook the jungle, while others overlook the rice fields or the pool. Many appreciate the secluded location of the rooms, which allowed them to almost never encounter other guests. They also note the unusual Balinese style of the rooms and the jungle atmosphere.

First on the list, I decided to feature the five-star hotel Mandapa, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve. It is surrounded by lush jungles and the Ayung River. I was drawn to the atmosphere in the spirit of a Balinese village and the wildlife around. I feel that this place is where one can truly reset and recharge.
The Sawah Terrace restaurant offers a variety of breakfasts with a view of beautiful rice fields and tropical forests: full American, buffet style, continental, and hot from the menu. You can come for breakfast from Monday to Sunday from 7:00 to 10:30 AM. It's very convenient that early breakfasts are organized here, allowing you to head out for island exploration right after. According to guests, the food is tasty and beautifully presented, but not excessive. You definitely won't leave hungry.
I liked that you can choose accommodation both in a room and in a villa. The hotel has 35 suites and 25 villas with private pools. But regardless of which option you choose, you are guaranteed a panoramic view of the tropical greenery around. And when selecting villas, you will have quick access to the river. All suites feature modern furniture in the living room and bedroom, a comfortable bathroom with double sinks, and a spacious sun terrace with sun loungers. There is also a shaded couch – the perfect place to relax, soak up the sun, and dive into an engaging book amidst beautiful landscaped gardens.
For a couple's getaway, suites are sufficient, but if you are traveling with family or a group of friends, then of course, choose a villa. Depending on the size and type, you will have two or three bedrooms, a separate dining room, a living room, a mini-kitchen, and a dressing room, a private library, a gazebo by the pool, and spa treatments in the room. In the design of all rooms, you will see a combination of traditional Balinese aesthetics with modern elements. Therefore, even without leaving your room or villa, you will become acquainted with the culture of Indonesia.
The Mandapa Hotel is designed for the relaxation of the body, soul, and mind. Here you can undergo individually tailored spiritual and wellness programs at the spa or fitness center. If you are traveling with family, there are special activities available, such as the Mandapa Camp — a children's club on the premises.
I found it very convenient that the hotel offers unique programs for exploring the island, if you do not want to do it on your own. For example, you can choose a full-day tour of the most beautiful places in Bali or a vintage tour in a VW 181 convertible to get acquainted with the local culture and traditions. You can also take a trip to a coffee bean plantation or participate in the Balinese purification ritual at the Water Mother Temple. If you are interested in the history of the city, then take a guided walk in Ubud.
