I am studying to become a doctor, and each year I do internships at different clinics in Europe. This time I am supposed to go to Heidelberg University Hospital - it is one of the largest medical centers in Germany. I will be very happy to meet the doctors who work there. I have no relatives or friends in this country, so I need to find a hotel. My parents said they would provide the best accommodation and asked me to choose suitable hotels myself. Unfortunately, my university hospital is located in the part of the city where there are almost no accommodation options. But I found some that are convenient to get to the clinic. Two of them are four-star hotels, and according to the description, they perfectly meet my needs. The image galleries and prices get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on February 07, 2025.

Hotel Heidelberg Astoria is closer to the clinic where I will be going for my internship, but it is still a four-star hotel and smaller, so I wouldn't put it at the top of my list of the best hotels. Still, the hotel has many positive aspects: it is located in a historic building and stands by the riverside, they offer excursions about the local culture, and there are movie nights. There is also an interesting service called "pub crawls," and I think tourists who come here for a vacation often take advantage of such opportunities. The hotel offers many cleaning services, laundry services, and there are conference rooms for business trips. Due to the good facilities of this small place, I will definitely consider stopping here.
The most important thing is how to get to my clinic. And it turned out to be very simple and easy. Firstly, it's only a 30-minute walk (while from the first hotel it's about an hour). If the weather is nice, and I'm not too tired, why not take the opportunity to walk? As soon as you exit the inner courtyard, there will be bus stops around the corner. Two buses arrive here every 10 minutes and go directly to the hospital. There you will only need to cross the street. Buses run every 15 minutes. I didn't find a transfer for guests to the city at the hotel, but there is at least one to/from the airport (and I will arrive by plane, so this is important for me as well). I like this option because you can quickly reach the clinic in different ways.
Apparently, in Germany, single rooms are often booked, as it's not uncommon in hotels here, although in any southern resorts, rooms usually accommodate two or more people. It's very nice that both very budget-friendly and more expensive rooms are available. I would choose a deluxe or upgraded room, as they are larger in size—about 27 sq. m. But in terms of amenities, they are almost the same: there is a kitchen, a bathroom, and even a small terrace overlooking the courtyard.
I like the spaciousness of the deluxe room and the opportunity to sit comfortably at a desk while studying. The kitchen has many useful items: a dishwasher, a kettle, a toaster. Everything you need for a quick breakfast and to save time on washing dishes.
Although I said that I could make breakfast myself, since there is a kitchen here, to my surprise, if you pay a little extra, you can get a free breakfast every day. It takes place from 07:00 to 10:00 in the morning. They say it's not very varied, dishes from the regional cuisine, but still there is a buffet, you can find something for yourself. And you can even have a snack on the terrace - I would like to start my morning before the clinic exactly in the fresh air. The hotel does not have a restaurant, which is why a kitchen is provided in the rooms. I will not complain about this point, because there is food delivery and packaged lunches - for a working person, this is a great saving of time and money.

Oh, the Boutique Hotel Heidelberg Suites in the historic part of Heidelberg looks beautiful and very expensive, and, in my opinion, it definitely deserves five stars! An interesting and unusual fact is that the hotel is located in a former tobacco factory building. It's amusing to think that I will be staying in a room where people used to work. But there is no trace of that fact; the hotel is really new, fresh, made neatly, with German meticulousness. Among its clear merits, I would highlight a whole spa complex and facilities for people with disabilities.
They clearly love to hold various excursions - both walking and cycling. I think it's obvious, without further words, why this option is very deserving, and it is also pleasing due to its location.
Boutique Hotel Heidelberg Suites is located in the same area across the river as the first five-star hotel. Here, I exclude walking to the hospital because it would take too long. However, it's convenient to travel by bus, with a stop just two streets away, about a 4-minute walk. From this square, different routes depart, taking 25 to 30 minutes to reach the destination. They arrive at the stop with a 10-minute interval, so you can board any of them. Even better, they offer a transfer, which is essentially like a taxi, but from the hotel. You can reach it by car in just 9 minutes—simply fantastic! This place delights me with its wide choice of transport, so it definitely deserves to be in the TOP.
Here I just couldn't find single rooms, moreover, there are big ones that accommodate six people. This is not surprising, because the hotel is large, and people definitely come here in groups of friends or family for a fun vacation. Well, I will take a double room, maybe it will even be better, so much space for just me (45 sq.m.)! The rooms are in a loft style, quite minimalist, with their own kitchen and just an enormous balcony. It feels more like a very expensive apartment. There is little noise from the street, and you can sit on the outdoor furniture. Near the kitchen, there is a dining area and a living corner. I am very impressed with this place!
The main downside of this hotel is that they do not serve breakfast and there is no restaurant🙁 It seems that it is expected that guests will go to cafes and restaurants; there are very many in this area. But at least there is grocery delivery; I will order ready-made meals or sometimes cook something in the evening. But most likely, I will go to the nearest restaurants; there are several of them on one street.
I decided to choose the second hotel. It is the closest to the university, and it has all the amenities I need, and there will even be something to entertain myself in my free time.

The five-star Der Europäische Hof Heidelberg looks luxurious. Probably, people come here more for leisure rather than business trips like I do. I like that the hotel, like many others in this city, is located in the historical district, where you can always take a walk and see something interesting around. I was surprised that access to the gym and spa here is free for guests, because usually there is an additional charge for this. A good location in the old part of the city, but close to the road to the new districts, and the offer of free cool services really pleases me.
I already mentioned that there are almost no hotels near the hospital, and if there are, they are not the best accommodation options. But, I will be honest, I'm not too upset, because I can easily get there by bus - there are as many as three routes, with all three stops at about the same distance from the hotel (approximately a couple of minutes walk and crossing the road). The buses take about 20-24 minutes to get there - a comfortable and short time! The round trip will take less than an hour. And at the reception, you can also buy bus tickets. Additionally, the hotel offers a transfer service to any location - it takes only 13 minutes by car! There is a car rental service as well; I can't drive, but it's a useful service for many. Due to such a huge variety of ways to get to the hospital, I really appreciated this hotel.
I noticed that there are single rooms of different levels here - from standard to "comfort." Usually, this is only available in accommodations for two people. Nevertheless, I will take a single room - the room looks very tidy and clean. The amenities in the standard and comfort rooms are almost the same: there is a private bathroom, a seating area, and even a mini-bar with a coffee machine. But what is important is that the comfort single room overlooks a quiet inner courtyard, while the standard room faces the city street. I love silence, especially after workdays at the clinic, so I will choose comfort for greater relaxation.
The price of the higher room already includes breakfast. Of course, I will take advantage of this as I won’t have time to cook before or after work at the clinic. Breakfast is served in the restaurant hall, but you can also order it to your room and choose items from the menu. If I’m late for the clinic, I will definitely make use of this offer. The restaurant is open for lunch, tea time, and dinner. They love to prepare dishes of French cuisine here - I have tried it, so I won’t pass up the delicious portions from the local chefs. The bar has a wide selection of wines - this is not so important to me, but I understand why many prefer to come here.
